British Schools’ Artificial Ski Slope Championships 2015

Following their recent success at the Welsh Championships in Llangrannog in October, Howell’s Senior Girls and Senior Boys’ Ski Teams were invited to participate in the British Schools’ Artificial Ski Slope Championships 2015 in Pontypool on Sunday 22nd November. This is a major slalom competition with over 150 competitors from all areas of Britain. The students skied brilliantly and, although they were not placed, they improved on their ranking from the Welsh Championship, with the boys finishing 3rd and the girls 4th out of the Welsh teams. Congratulations go to Harry H. (Year 12) who came 9th overall. Against the other competing Welsh schools, our racers who did particularly well came 3rd (Harry H. Year 12), 4th (Ben J. Year 13), 9th (Henry J. Year 12), 8th (Holly C. Year 13) and 9th (Louise S. Year 10). The course was certainly not for the faint-hearted, with some tricky gate combinations which had to be navigated accurately at speed; indeed there were 10 disqualifications!

Girls’ Team: Captain Holly C. (Year 13), Caitlin J. (Year 13), Laura B. (Year 13), Louise S. (Year 10)
Boys’ Team: Ben J. (Year 13), Harry H. (Year 12), Henry J. (Year 12), Alex G. (Year 12)
