Howell's takes part in MDA Awards event

The MDA Annual Awards were once again celebrated at Howell's on Saturday, November 28th. We were delighted that this year, in addition to the awards presented to eminent adult members of ethnic communities who have contributed hugely to life in the UK, young people's achievements were also recognised in the Junior Award. Two Howell's students were given this award: Zareena H. of Year 8 for winning the South Wales Poetry Award from Young Writers UK and for her musical and linguistic talents, and Jumana A. of Year 13 for her extensive community involvement and her successful charitable fund-raising initiatives. Congratulations to both award winners!

Three Year 12 students took part in the public speaking competition, having written their own speeches on a difficult and very topical subject: how to prevent the radicalisation of young people in Britain. Lara W., Udita D. and Emily E. all received  awards, Lara having come second overall. Well done, girls!

We were also privileged to hear addresses from a Hywelian, Alveena Malik (formerly Ahmed) and the politician Shahid Malik (no relation) who was the UK's first Muslim Minister. It was a highly successful and enlightening event.
