Junior Young Leaders 2016

This year’s Young Leaders event for girls in Year 6 was held last week, which involved the girls taking a start-up box of basic items and in 3 days turning them into products that could be sold at a craft fair.

The girls worked in groups of 11 or 12 and had to design, make, market and present their business ideas, trying to raise as much money as possible for the Howell’s School Bursary Fund.

Over the three days, the girls were given an insight into the different processes that small businesses have to go through, from the initial ideas, to marketing the product. Visiting speakers spoke with the groups and answered questions that they had relating to their own business.

Mrs Kimura, from Trust Office, spent the three days with the girls in her role as GDST Skills Development Manager, imparting her knowledge and helping the girls develop their businesses.

The final day saw the girls working on their presentation skills, preparing to speak to their parents about the process. After the fair had taken place (and Years 2 and 3 were all spent out!) the Year 6 parents were invited to the Hub@Howell’s to listen to what their daughters had been working on. All girls spoke with confidence and it was clear that they had learnt so much and developed so many skills.

Well done, girls - we’re so proud of all you’ve achieved!
