Intrepid cyclists complete Champagne Cycle Challenge

Many congratulations and thanks to the 120 cyclists (students, staff, parents, families, friends, Governors and Hywelians) who took part in our fourth Champagne Cycle Challenge, "Waves and Wheels", on Sunday 3rd July,  a rare beautiful sunny day.   This year it incorporated new sea-themed routes which were a big hit. The first group left Howell’s at 10am, cycling 70 miles to and from Ogmore-by-Sea via the back roads of the Vale of Glamorgan. At 12pm the second group set off for Penarth Quay Marina where they enjoyed refreshments on the barrage before making their way back to school. The third group of nearly 60 cyclists left Howell’s at 2pm and cycled to Mermaid Quay in Cardiff Bay and back.  At 3pm we welcomed the youngest members of our community who took part in the cycling obstacle course in the school grounds. Cyclists began to arrive back at school from 4pm when they were rewarded for their efforts with a glass of fizz, a barbecue and a bouncy castle, which was extremely popular with children and adults alike! This year we were delighted that our community police officer, PC Pope, and his colleague, Mark, took part in the challenge. Thank you to all the staff and parents who volunteered on the day; they all made it a great success.  It really was a wonderful example of the entire Howell’s community coming together for a fun- filled day.
