Howell's skiers from the Junior School, Senior School and the College skied brilliantly at the Welsh Schools’ Dry Ski Slalom Championships on Sunday 9th October at the Urdd Centre, Llangrannog, winning seven medals between them, (six of them Gold!). Junior skiers, Laura H. (Y6) and Zuriel U. (Reception) were the first to ski. Competition was fierce, with over 50 racers and Zuriel won Gold in the U6 category. She was the youngest and the smallest skier on the slopes.

In the secondary competition there were over 100 racers from all over Wales.  Our senior boys team (Harry H., Tom K. and Henry J. from Y13) were very successful, with Harry winning Gold in the U18 category and Gold overall for unregistered skiers, and Tom winning Gold in the U21 unregistered category. Henry should have won a prize for sheer grit and determination. On his first run he clipped a gate, did a cartwheel down the slope losing both skis. He managed to retrieve one, hobbled back up to the gate where he had taken a tumble, and proceeded to complete the course, skiing on one leg to a round of applause!
Our senior girls also performed very well.  Tirion J. (Y7) made her debut as a senior skier and acquitted herself extremely well on her first outing. Louise S. (Y11 -captain) achieved Gold in the U16 unregistered girls, and Claudia E. (Y12) won Gold in the U18 unregistered category and Bronze overall. Louise and Claudia, together with teammates Catrin B. (Y12) and Ziraili U. (Y9),  have qualified for the British Schools’ Championships, hosted this year by the English Schools’ Ski Association in Gloucester in November. We wish them lots of luck in this major competition.
