Howell’s Book Week 2016
We celebrated our Book Week last week on the theme of ‘Magnificent Manga & Graphic Greats’. We were delighted to see so many students join in from across the Year groups and College with our Spelling Bee and House Quiz. Congratulations to Auvni, Jennifer, Morwenna and Sonali (Trotter) for winning the Quiz and to Siani (Kendall) for winning the Spelling Bee. Special mention must go to Lewis House Captain Rhodri for rallying so many participants in the Spelling Bee!
On Thursday, we welcomed Comic Creator and Illustrator Karen Rubins who spoke to Years 7 and 8 about her inspirations, comic styles and how to go about developing your very own comic. Karen was most impressed with the fantastic efforts the students had gone to in celebrating her visit with their Comic-Con inspired outfits! At lunch time, Karen ran a hands-on workshop in the Library for a keen Book Club audience to help them create their very own Manga characters.
All donations from the own clothes day will go to Llamau, Wales’ leading homeless charity, working with homeless and potentially homeless young people and vulnerable women across Wales.
