Agincourt commemorations at Howell’s

On Friday 23rd October 2015 the history department welcomed a small group of re-enactors and, with the help of the French and English departments, Year 7 and thirty pupils from local primary schools enjoyed an Agincourt-themed day to commemorate the 600th anniversary of the Battle of Agincourt. The students were all encouraged to dress as medieval archers and were given Agincourt Howell’s tee shirts to wear for the day.

They enjoyed a number of activities, including a Shakespeare Henry V lesson provided by the English department and a French themed lesson, featuring key French words about Agincourt and the opportunity to use a feather quill and learn about heraldry. The history department gave a workshop about the causes and events of the battle of Agincourt. As part of the day, the students participated in a medieval weapons workshop and they tried archery, medieval style. Lunch was a medieval-themed picnic and after lunch all the students took part in a re-enactment of the battle on the school fields, led by our group of re-enactors.
