Bridges to Schools

Engineering was the focus of the day in the Sports Hall at Howell’s on Tuesday 6th December as we welcomed Costain Construction to lead our annual Bridges to Schools event. Costain brought with them a model suspension bridge and children from Year 3 in Howell’s, Herbert Thompson and Radnor primary schools constructed and walked across the bridge.  It gave them to opportunity to learn about bridges, civil engineering and health and safety as well as developing their team work skills. More than 90 children helped to combine their practical talents to build the 12 metre long and 3 metre high cable-stayed bridge, which is the same general design as the second Severn Crossing. Many thanks to all those involved who made the day so special.

On behalf of myself and the children, thank you very much for such a fantastic event yesterday! The children were all so enthusiastic and loved every minute!
Thanks again, I can't stress how much the children (and I) enjoyed it!
