What a season it’s been for our hockey players! Three Howell's teams made their mark at County Finals Day on Monday, March 11th (2x Year 7 & Year 9), showcasing outstanding performances on the pitch. Year 7A triumphed with a convincing 6-0 victory over Ysgol Glantaf in their final, while Year 9 secured a commendable 3-0 win against the same opponent. Huge congratulations to everyone involved in these well-deserved successes.
This week, the Under 14 Team returned to the Sport Wales Centre for National Finals Day. They had previously navigated past formidable opponents in the County stage, including Radyr Comprehensive School, Ysgol Plasmawr, Cathedral School, and Ysgol Bro Morgannwg, to qualify for the South Wales Finals in Swansea. Their journey continued with victories against Brynteg School (Bridgend), Ysgol Penweddig (Aberystwyth), and Ysgol Cwm Rhymni (Caerphilly), alongside a draw against Haberdashers' Monmouth (Monmouthshire), propelling them to the National Semi-Finals. Despite another draw with Haberdashers' Monmouth in the semis, the team displayed resilience, securing wins against Cathedral School (Cardiff), Ysgol Botwnnog (Gwynedd), and Milford Haven (Pembrokeshire), leading them to the National Final for a decisive rematch against Haberdashers' Monmouth. Taking an early lead and adding two more goals in the second half, they emerged victorious with a 3-0 scoreline, claiming the prestigious title of National Champions.
The Under 14 Squad comprises talented individuals who contributed immensely to this remarkable journey: Alice A, Annie B, Lana B-E, Nell C-P, Sena C-P, Agatha D, Sophie D, Eira D, Illeana E-E, Elin G, Erin H, Chloe J, Grace J, Mollie R, Elizabeth S, Olivia S, and Xinrong Z.
