Written by Nia and Megan in Year 5:
On Friday the 17 of November, Year 5 went on a fun-filled school trip to Welsh Water.
A great moment during this trip was when we visited the pond and fished for clearwater insects including, Dragonfly Nymphs, Pond Skaters and Water Beetles. As well as conducting our fun pond experiment, we completed a few activities to show how the water cycle works. First, we filled a beaker with 6ml of water and then put it over a candle to learn about evaporation. We then added salt to a beaker with 6ml of water to represent sea water and left it over a candle to see where the salt went to find out why the rain was not salty. When we returned to check on our experiment, we found that the salt from the water had separated and crystallised around our beaker!
In the afternoon, we walked down to the River Taff and set up a challenge. We set up two cones about 5 metres apart at threw a dog biscuit into the river. Somebody timed the dog biscuit to see which part of the river flows the fastest, the middle or the bank. We all enjoyed it so much!
