On Thursday 13th June, Year 5 were delighted to welcome Mrs Janet Sully, school archivist and former Howell's teacher, as part of their Victorian History studies. Mrs Sully brought history to life by sharing a range of artefacts related to school life in Victorian times. Each of the girls were able to hold a piece of soap and a porcelain soap dish from the school building in 1860; as well as, viewing the original school records for the 30 orphans that started in Howell's at this time. The girls were shocked to read the teachers' reports for piano playing, of these young ladies, and were amazed at the beauty of the lace report cards to show appreciation of hard work. They also saw a replica of the uniform and we discussed daily timetables and life in that era.
Many thanks to Mrs Sully for taking her time to visit us and share her vast knowledge and expertise in the history of Howell's School Llandaff.
